Recruitment FAQs

Can I join if I have gone through formal recruitment?

Yes! You’re still welcome to go through SDT’s recruitment process and become a member, as long as you have not been initiated into another National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sorority.

Can I join even if I am not Jewish?

Not at all. While Sigma Delta Tau was founded in 1917 by seven Jewish women at Cornell University and continues to be rooted in Jewish values and traditions, our chapter is open to women of all backgrounds.

We are proud to be a supportive and empowering space for Jewish women, while also welcoming anyone who is looking for a strong, inclusive community.

What is the time commitment for being in SDT?

Being a member of SDT is similar to adding another meaningful commitment alongside your classes—but it gives back just as much as you put into it.

You can expect one chapter meeting each week, along with optional weekly opportunities like study hours, sisterhood events, philanthropy and service projects, and social activities.

As a new member, you’ll also participate in new member education meetings designed to help you get to know SDT, build friendships, and feel fully at home in the chapter.

If you choose to take on a leadership role—such as serving on a committee or as an officer—there will be additional responsibilities, but these experiences are incredibly rewarding and a great way to grow personally and professionally.

At the end of the day, SDT is flexible and designed to fit into your life. The more you choose to get involved, the more meaningful your experience will be.

When is Sigma Delta Tau getting a house?

While we don’t currently have a traditional house, SDT members have access to our Loft—a dedicated space open all day, every day.

Located just off Guad and 24th, the Loft offers a convenient spot right near campus and West Campus where members can study, grab snacks or coffee, relax, or spend time with friends.

At the same time, we are actively exploring future housing options and are excited about what’s ahead for our chapter!
