Recruitment FAQs
Can I join if I have gone through formal recruitment?
Yes! You can still go though SDT’s recruitment process and become a member as long as you have not gone through initiation with another National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) organization.
Can I join even if I am not Jewish?
We were founded on Jewish values and principles by seven Jewish women at Cornell University in 1917. Our chapter upholds those values, along with continuing to be a proud, safe space for Jewish women.
Any woman who wishes to be a part of our community and is a UT student in good academic standing may go through our recruitment process and be offered membership, regardless of religious affiliation or ethnicity.
What do financial obligations look like?
Since we are not paying for a house currently, new member dues are $1000 per semester with additional charges to be incurred throughout the year.
What is the time commitment involved in being in SDT?
Being a member of a sorority is like taking another academic class. You can expect one chapter meeting each week, as well as other weekly programming such as study sessions, sisterhood activities, community service projects, and social events. As a new member, you will also have new member education meetings. Taking on a leadership role, such as a committee chair or officer position, entails more time commitments but is extremely rewarding. Remember, the more you put into the sorority, the more you will get out of it!
When is Sigma Delta Tau getting a house?
The loft is our temporary space that members have access to all day, everyday. They can come to get snacks, coffee, to study, or even watch a movie. We are located right off of Guad and 24th, with prime access to campus and West Campus. We are actively exploring options for a house!
